An Open Letter to Everyone Who Signed the Petition

Hi,

You don’t know me. You have no idea who I am. You might know my name if you researched the show enough, but I’m assuming based on the lack of research on your part that you probably have no idea who I am. Let me help you out.

My name is Ty, and I am playing Adam in The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told; a production that you signed a petition against to have taken down because it was blasphemous in your opinion.

I am also gay. I am also a Christian. I am also an actor working on telling a story. And in case you just glazed over one of the facts about me… I am a Christian who was homeschooled under a super conservative family, taught creationism, went to a Christian private school where we took religious courses, and have been going to church now for 24 years non-stop.

Basically, I like to consider myself decently educated in the Bible, faith, and my relationship with God.

With that being said, I want to educate you on what you are protesting. You think you are protesting a show “claiming” Mary is a lesbian and Adam is gay. Here is what you are protesting against…

You are protesting against a show talking about the dynamics of love vs. faith.

You are protesting against a show discussing sexual boundaries.

You are protesting against a show where the lead struggles with questions he can never have answered.

You are protesting against a show that speaks to people on a spiritual level about what do we do when don’t have all the answers.

You are protesting against a show which demonstrates the hardship of dealing with a sick loved one.

You are protesting against a show of where people discover the power of faith.

You are protesting against a show of where love wins.

I’m here to tell you that if I can do this show with a clear conscience after spending weeks in the script, becoming someone else, being in the head of Adam, and talking with my fellow actors and director about the dynamics of this play… Then you should stop worrying yourself about the work we are doing.
