It is not every day your face appears as a 9 foot painting in the middle of your hometown. Next to other paintings of people you respect and adore. Painted by an old homeschool buddy who you grew up with for 13 years. Some connections just never die.
Emily Arwood is bringing something different to the scene of downtown Thomasville. Her work has been featured in Tallahassee, which also happened to be my face, and she is gaining recognition all over the south. After a few conversations with her, I can say without a doubt that she is going places. Big places. Her work speaks to people of all background and inspires others to become better versions of themselves.
Below is an excerpt on her latest showcase titled VIBRANT which runs through late January.
This fall, Artist in Residence, Emily Arwood brings her colorful portraiture to Broad Street, covering the walls in her whimsical and emotive imagery. Driven by a fascination with color and its ability to add emotional dimension, she began her most recent series of portraits; a study in this world's kaleidoscopic cast of characters. This exhibition is a celebration of the most vibrant of subjects: people.
